What is your background?
Hello! My name is Mackenzie. I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and then moved to Boston, MA to study Music Therapy at the Berklee College of Music. After school in Boston, I moved to Utah to start my career, with my most recent position being Expressive Arts & Music Therapy Manager at Huntsman Cancer Institute. I’m trusting that my Buffalo and Boston roots have prepared me well for the Minnesota winters (even after almost 7 years of living in the desert)! I am truly grateful for the meaningful experiences I’ve had throughout my journey, all of which have ultimately led me to TLC.
What is your role at TLC?
I am the Program Manager at TLC, where I get to wear many hats—and I enjoy them all! My role includes overseeing daily operations, keeping things running smoothly, assisting our clients, communicating with parents and caregivers, and supporting our amazing staff.
Why do you like working at TLC?
I love working at TLC for so many reasons. At its heart, TLC is all about caring for our clients and for one another. Being part of such a supportive environment is incredibly rewarding, and I’m truly grateful for it. I also love that we celebrate each client’s individuality and create a safe space where everyone can be their unique, authentic selves. Lastly, there’s never a day that goes by without smiles and laughter!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Outside of work, I enjoy doing crosswords, reading, cooking (and of course enjoying) delicious meals, singing whatever song happens to be stuck in my head, and playing board games. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and playing disc golf with my husband. I have three pets who I adore – a “chigi” (chihuahua/corgi mix) and two cats.
What is a fun fact about you?
The French horn was my primary instrument all through high school and college. I ended up selling it after college and leaning into what I truly love – guitar, piano and singing!
