What is your background?
I became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in 2018 and have been working with adults with
intellectual/developmental disabilities ever since. I’ve lived in Madison, WI for the past 7 years where I worked as a Recreation Therapist at Central Wisconsin Center. I loved my time in Wisconsin, but wanted to come back to my home state of Minnesota to be closer to my family. I’m grateful for the opportunity to escape all the Packers fans and make Minnesota home again!
What is your role at TLC?
I am a Recreation Therapist at TLC. I work directly with clients to increase their independence and quality of life through recreation. I provide opportunities for clients to connect with their community through leisure. Using client interests, Rec Therapy can help improve well-being.
Why do you like working at TLC?
I like working at TLC because I love helping clients live their best lives. Being able to give them tools to build confidence in their abilities and making connections with others. I enjoy building rapport with clients and making a positive impact on their day!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I can be found watching all the reality TV, listening to true crime podcasts, scoping out sushi places, obsessively caring for my plants, or hanging out with my sister and nephews!
What is a fun fact about you?
There is a bridge in MN that is named after my grandma, Betty Adkins! The Betty Adkins Bridge spans the Mississippi River between Otsego and Elk River.
